"Former President Obasanjo denounces his wife, calling her "an impostor"

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has distanced himself from a statement issued by an individual claiming to be his wife, Taiwo Obasan, who had pleaded for forgiveness on his behalf. This appeal for forgiveness followed a controversial statement made by the former president during the inauguration of projects in Iseyin, Oyo state, which was organized by Governor Seyi Makinde.

In the statement titled "Oyo Kings: A Plea for Forgiveness," Taiwo Obasanjo humbly requested "permanent and eternal forgiveness and pardon" from the entire Yoruba community, including sons and daughters, parents, youths, religious groups (Christians, Muslims, traditional worshippers), leaders in Yoruba land, and the Council of Kings in Yoruba land.

However, former President Obasanjo has clarified that Taiwo Obasan is neither his wife nor a member of the Obasanjo family. Despite having two children with her, he categorically stated that she is an impostor.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Chief Obasanjo asserted that only he or individuals officially delegated by him can make statements on behalf of the Obasanjo family. He emphasized that Taiwo Martins' posturing as his wife is false and unauthorized.

Regarding the controversy surrounding the respect and protocol accorded to the office of a state governor, Chief Obasanjo maintained his stance that the governor holds the highest office in the state and should be treated with due respect as stipulated in the constitution. He expressed concern that any deviation from this respect and protocol undermines both the office and the constitution.
