"Atiku Abubakar Pledges Ongoing Pursuit of Justice Beyond Supreme Court"

Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25th presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, reaffirmed his commitment to the pursuit of justice, extending beyond the Supreme Court if necessary.

In a statement posted on his verified social media account (formerly Twitter), Atiku urged Nigerians not to succumb to fear or silence and cautioned against any misuse of security agencies to suppress opposition political parties.

He stated, "I remain steadfast in my quest for justice, well beyond any judgments reached at the Supreme Court. I carry this responsibility with the understanding that it embodies the hopes of millions of Nigerians who voted for a change in our country's political direction."

Atiku emphasized the collective nature of democracy, calling on Nigerians to preserve their voices and not allow themselves to be intimidated into silence.

Reflecting on his tenure as Vice President, he highlighted the administration's strength in its ability to embrace diverse opinions and perspectives. He stated, "Our administration excelled in accommodating dissenting views and engaging in constructive dialogue without animosity."

Atiku further noted that granting space for opposing forces to thrive is a sign of a robust democracy, as it allows the best ideas to be tested and refined through diverse viewpoints.

As a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, he acknowledged the frustrations of the younger generation, who see a nation with vast potential but limited delivery and a bleak outlook for the future. He reiterated his commitment to promoting restraint and leading by example, discouraging unnecessary political polarization.

However, he stressed the importance of defending opposition freedoms when they are threatened. "As Democrats and Patriots, we have a duty to speak up when opposition voices face suppression or even the appearance of it," he said.

Atiku emphasized the principles of democracy as central to his beliefs and experiences. He called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to refrain from using security agencies to harass or unlawfully detain political opposition members, extending this call to all opposition voices, including those on the internet advocating for a better Nigeria.

He expressed deep concern over recent revelations suggesting the suppression of dissent and the fabrication of charges against opposition figures. Atiku argued that a vibrant democracy thrives when dissent is heard, even if it discomforts those in power.

In conclusion, he emphasized that a thriving democratic society protects and respects opposing viewpoints, ensuring transparency and preventing the concentration of power in the hands of a few. Atiku called on the government to resist the influence of anti-democratic forces and uphold the essence of democracy, which prioritizes justice, liberty, and equality for all. He urged all Nigerians to unite in upholding these principles and ensuring that every voice, no matter how contrary, has its rightful place in the national discourse.
