Police Arrest gay suspects holding gay wedding in Nigeria. Over 100 suspect arrested

Police in southern Nigeria's Delta state said they "arrested more than 100 suspected gay men at a hotel where a same-sex wedding ceremony was taking place".

The term "gay" generally refers to someone who is homosexual, meaning they are emotionally, romantically, and/or sexually attracted to people of the same sex.

Being gay is one of many possible sexual orientations that exist across the spectrum of human diversity. It should be noted that sexual orientation is a fundamental aspect of human identity and is not a matter of choice.

Police , who revealed the information in a tweet on their official Twitter page around 9:06 am Tuesday, said the suspects would be brought in soon.

Same-sex relationships are illegal in Nigeria. Nigeria's Anti-Gay Law, passed by President Goodluck Jonathan's government in January 2014, provides for a 14-year prison sentence for anyone convicted of homosexual conduct.

The Nigerian government first challenged this law in December 2019, when 47 men arrested by police a year earlier at a Lagos hotel for publicly showing affection for a person of their own sex were brought to justice.
